The Sanctity of Marriage
High Calling Ministries NZ upholds the sanctity of the marriage bond. We believe that marriage is the joining together of one man and one woman in an intimate personal union
of mutual consent. This relationship is to be consummated and continuously nourished by sexual intercourse and perfected in a life-long covenant of love and commitment. As opposed to the situation of two people just living together in a partnership, or this union being a drawn-up contract, we believe that marriage is much more than that: it is a sacred covenant which can only be terminated by the death of one of the partners.

Marriage was God’s idea and was in a sense, an order of creation. The Creator made man and woman for each other, their essential natures being complementary, and brought into oneness in marriage. Right at the outset, God established a basic law to safeguard and protect this union by saying:

“Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.” (Gen.2:24)

Only in the sacred union of a covenant can two individuals with different physiques, natures, temperaments and emotional needs be joined together to become one. All other sexual unions or live-in partnerships are contrary to the will of God and thus condemned in His Word. The writer to the Hebrews spells it out clearly, by stating:

“Marriage should be honoured by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and the sexually immoral.” (Heb. 13:4NIV)

 

God is the guardian of the Covenant
The Creator is a covenant-keeping God, and when we enter into covenant with our spouse we are expected to honour that covenant, which God oversees, and is the guardian of.
Sadly, many a marriage falls apart as a result of the ignorance of this truth. As satan is opposed to anything to do with God, he is naturally opposed to the covenant of marriage, and that is why all marriages, especially Christian marriages are under attack today.
